OnePlus - famous as flagship killer brand is known to introduce mobile handsets which has flagship mobile specifications (Samsung, Apple, Pixel) but within the reach of people by keeping price low. The brand launched its first smartphone OnePlus 1 in July 2015 and has been consistently launching mobile phones at regular intervals.
OnePlus has some strong points like optimized Oxygen OS, Update policy, Hardware & OnePlus forum.
As per official OnePlus update policy, the regular software maintenance will be provided for first 24 months from the date of launch and software security maintenance for next 12 months.
- The Regular Software Maintenance for 24 months (2 years) includes Android version upgrades, New features, Security patch updated bi-monthly.

But all that glitters is not gold
OnePlus pushed Oxygen OS 10.0 update with Android 10 for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users in May-June 2020. The users were happy but soon their happiness took U turn when many users started noticing major bugs in day to day usage. The OnePlus 5/5T forum was flooded with bug reports.
In this case, what would you expect OnePlus to do based on the brand image it has created till now? At least push bug fix update and security patch....
But to OnePlus 5/5T users nightmare, OnePlus did nothing and silently ignored them by focusing on new launches and providing timely updates to OnePlus 6 series, OnePlus 7 series, OnePlus 8 series & OnePlus Nord. OnePlus 5/5T users are still on April 2020 security patch and most buggiest Android 10 update at the time of writing this article.
OnePlus shows how to kill old models
When OnePlus 5/5T users started raising this issue on various social media platforms, Gary C - OnePlus product lead gave an update on September 18, 2020 about issues they are facing (Source - OnePlus forum).
Well, it has been a month now and no official updates are received from OnePlus. Everyone is keeping quiet as if OnePlus5/5T is a closed chapter for them. In this whole fuss, users are feeling being cheated as OnePlus ruined a phone which was working awesome and now ignoring.
This has changed OnePlus users perception now from being Flagship killer to Mobile phone killer. OnePlus very well knows now how to kill their old model and force users for an upgrade. The OnePlus5/5T users will give up one day and purchase a new mobile phone. But will that be OnePlus?
